Buccaneers’ Insurer Recovers $4 Million in Kicker Liability Case

An Axis Capital Holdings Ltd. insurance unit can recover up to $4 million it paid to settle a lawsuit by former Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Lawrence Tynes, who alleged he contracted a career-ending staph infection at a Bucs’ facility, a federal court ruled.

The US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit reversed on Tuesday a federal district judge in Indiana, saying Axis wasn’t contractually obligated to give another insurer — American Specialty Insurance & Risk Services Inc. — the opportunity to tender defense before settling the case.
