Assurant Insurance Unit Loses Bid to Block Class Certification

An Arizona federal judge shot down an Assurant Inc. insurance unit’s request to deny class status to a plaintiff in a dispute over how the property insurer calculated payments for losses.

It’s too early to determine that the plaintiff couldn’t possibly demonstrate his case is eligible for class status, Judge Douglas L. Rayes of the US District Court for the District of Arizona said in a Dec. 13 order.
