Allstate Sued by Bankruptcy Trustee Over Asbestos Litigation

A bankruptcy trustee for a defunct vacuum pump manufacturer sued an Allstate Corp. unit for allegedly refusing to pay claims for asbestos-related litigation under a $5 million policy.

Allstate Insurance Co., as successor to Northbrook Excess & Surplus Insurance Co., breached its contract by failing to cover defense costs and settlements for thousands of asbestos lawsuits filed against Nash Engineering Co., according to a complaint Tuesday by George Roumeliotis in the US District Court for the District of Connecticut.
