AIG, Swiss Re Units Sued Over Adventist Church Abuse Claims (1)

A captive insurance company sued two reinsurers—units of American International Group Inc. and Swiss Re AG—for refusing to reimburse $55.4 million in defense costs and settlements paid for abuse claims against Seventh-day Adventist organizations.

Gencon Insurance Co. of Vermont is seeking to recover $36.4 million from AIG’s Lexington Insurance Co. and $19 million from Swiss Re’s Westport Insurance Corp., according to the captive insurer’s complaint Tuesday in the US District Court for the District of Vermont.
