AIG, Other Insurers Get Mixed Ruling in Genworth Settlement Row

Long-term care insurance provider Genworth Financial Inc. largely won out in a coverage dispute with its own liability insurers—including units of American International Group Inc. and Chubb Ltd.—for settlement payments in underlying class actions over premium hikes.

Some portions of those settlements were precluded from coverage by an exclusion in Genworth’s liability policies, but the covered portion exhausts the policies’ retentions and the insurers are on the hook for their respective policy limits, Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric M. Davis said in a redacted ruling made public Tuesday.
