Uber Drivers In California Could Be Compensated For Inspections

A bill advancing through the California legislature would compensate motorists driving for ride hailing-services such as Uber and Lyft for the time they spend having their vehicles inspected under state motor-safety regulations and get the option of having those inspections conducted virtually.

But labor unions are pushing back on the measure (S.B. 429), arguing it doesn’t go far enough to ensure drivers are paid adequately.

The state Assembly’s Communications and Conveyance Committee on July 5 unanimously approved the bill, sponsored by state Sen. Steven Bradford (D). It heads next to the Assembly Appropriations Committee and would require approval ...
