Trump Team Warns of More Flight Delays If US Shutdown Continues

Oct. 23, 2025, 3:46 PM UTC

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned that flight disruptions would continue across the US as the government shutdown drags into its fourth week.

“I can’t guarantee you that your flight’s going to be on time. I can’t guarantee you that your flight’s not going to be canceled,” he told reporters Thursday.

More than 13,000 air traffic controllers and 50,000 Transportation Security Administration agents are being forced to work during the shutdown without pay. During past shutdowns, that’s often led in an increase in employees calling out sick — a trend that appears to be continuing with the latest funding lapse.
