TikTok, Others Lobby Hochul on NY Child Digital Privacy Bills

TikTok and other tech companies have organized a lobbying campaign to get New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) to reconsider her support of proposals to limit minors’ use of social media while restricting the data companies can collect from them.

The companies are concerned over legislation (SB 7694) that would require parents provide verifiable permission for social media apps to show “addictive” algorithmic feeds to their children. Parents would also have to sign off on allowing notification between the hours of 12 a.m. and 6 p.m. under the proposal.
