Texas lawmakers are racing to reach agreement on sweeping changes to bolster the state’s independent power grid in the final weeks of the legislative session.

Legislators are pushing measures this year aimed at improving its reliability after Winter Storm Uri in 2021 caused days of power outages that led to deaths and damage to homes and businesses costing billions of dollars. Numerous bills take a range of policy approaches to encourage new power plants and adjust how the deregulated electricity market functions.
