NY Bill Tackles AI Use of Actors’ Images Absent Unions, Lawyers

New legislation in New York aims to help striking Hollywood actors by banning contracts with performers who didn’t receive the advice of attorneys or unions while negotiating deals for the rights to AI-made versions of their voice or body.

“We want to work smarter. We want to work less. We want to be more efficient, but we cannot lose our respect and our dignity along the way—not today, not tomorrow, not ever,” said state Senate Labor Chair Jessica Ramos (D) to striking actors in Manhattan Tuesday, a day after she introduced the bill (S. 7676).
