Workers in California will be guaranteed up to five days of leave after a miscarriage under a new state law Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed Tuesday.
The measure (S.B. 848) passed as some companies and other states expand their own leave policies to include miscarriages, which backers argue is key for workplace equity and to help expecting parents experiencing loss and trauma.
The law, which takes effect next year, applies to companies with five or more employees and extends to spouses as well as domestic partners.
