Minnesota Statehouse Flip Lands Win For Right to Repair Backers

Minnesota consumers will soon be able to more easily fix their broken cell phones and household appliances, under the broadest state right to repair law in the US.

The law—requiring manufacturers to provide tools and information to fix a range of products—comes as Minnesota Democrats flexed their new control of the statehouse this year to pass sweeping policies on abortion, taxes, and other issues. The state’s Democrats secured majorities in both legislative chambers and the governor’s office in the 2022 election, after Republicans had held at least one chamber for nearly a decade.
