Lippert Components’ $310,000 Class Settlement Gets Court Nod

Lippert Components Inc.‘s deal to end a class action alleging the company discriminates against workers who smoke by charging them higher health insurance premiums was approved by a federal judge.

A group of former Lippert employees claimed the company charged smokers an additional fee totaling $936 per year to maintain insurance coverage under the employee health plan. Although the company waives the fee for employees who complete a smoking cessation program, it allegedly doesn’t retroactively credit workers for the amount they already paid.
