Many low-paid workers in California’s health-care industry would get a raise after state legislators voted Thursday to set a $25 hourly minimum wage for employees at dialysis centers and major hospital systems.
The state Senate cleared the bill (S.B. 525), which will set wages at $23 an hour starting next year and increase to $25 an hour over time, in the final hours of the year’s legislative session, sending it to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D). The measure passed the Assembly earlier in the day by a vote of 59-11.
