Google LLC has defeated deceptive trade practice claims from the state of Texas over allegedly tracking residents’ location and search history without their knowledge, with a Texas state appeals court ruling Thursday.
The technology giant lacks sufficient ties to Texas to be pulled into the lawsuit, which alleges false statements that occurred elsewhere, the Court of Appeals, 13th District said in a unanimous opinion.
Texas also hasn’t shown that any of Google’s 5,500 Texas employees “made the misleading statements,” the Corpus Christi-Edinburg court ruled, reversing a trial court’s order that forced Google to face the potentially high-dollar claims.
