Inspectors General Fired by Trump Denied Order to Resume Work

A group of inspectors general who allege their firings by the Trump administration are unlawful lost their bid Wednesday to get a court order mandating their reinstatement.

President Donald Trump violated the Inspector General Act when he fired the agency watchdogs, Judge Ana C. Reyes of the US District Court for the District of Columbia wrote. But the inspectors general aren’t entitled to an injunction because they can’t show irreparable harm.

Even if the IGA comports with the president’s authority under Article II, the plaintiffs’ “inability to perform their duties for 30 days is not irreparable harm,” Reyes wrote. ...
