CIBC Promotes Scholtz to Chief Legal Officer as Lawal Retires

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce said Tuesday it was appointing Stephen Scholtz to the role of global chief legal officer.

Scholtz has held progressively senior roles in CIBC’s legal department over his nearly 20-year career with the bank, most recently as general counsel for Canada, the bank said. Kikelomo Lawal, the current chief legal officer, will retire after overseeing legal affairs, corporate governance, client complaints, government relations, and developing the bank’s ESG strategy. CIBC announced a number of management changes Tuesday linked to the coming elevation of Harry Culham to the role of president and CEO.
