Chinese AI Firms Seek Dismissal of Disney’s Copyright Suit

A Chinese AI company argued a copyright suit by Walt Disney Co. and several other studios over MiniMax’s Hailuo AI should be dismissed for failing to plead jurisdiction, registered copyrightable characters, or infringement.

The entertainment giants largely failed to clear the high bar for establishing protectable characters and link copyright registrations to claimed characters, Shanghai Xiyu Jizhi Technology Co. said in the April 10 motion to dismiss in the US District Court for the Central District of California.
