Labor unions and the restaurant industry announced a deal Monday to raise the minimum wage for fast food workers across California to $20 an hour and scrap an industry-supported referendum on the issue that was set for the ballot next year.
Key legislators have been working on the long-stalled bill (A.B. 1228) that would set a minimum wage of $20 an hour starting in April 2024 at fast-food restaurant chains with more than 60 locations nationwide. That’s an increase from the state state minimum wage, which will be $16 an hour next year.
