Even as governments around the world crack down on migration with renewed force, many are offering fast-track residency to foreigners, for a price.

When the US said on Sept. 19 it would charge companies a $100,000 fee to hire college-educated workers from abroad, it also announced a new visa program targeting the world’s wealthy — a “Trump Gold Card” for individuals who pay $1 million.

It’s not the only such program. Several nations offer so-called “golden visas,” and some even dole out full citizenship via “golden passports.”
