The Department of Justice has unlawfully accelerated immigration court proceedings for Somali nationals, making asylum claims nearly impossible to win, according to a new lawsuit.
A “Somali Fast-Track Policy” introduced in January curtailed the timeline to make claims for non-detained Somali immigrants and assigned them to a set of handpicked immigration judges, the suit says.
The alleged policy, which has not been acknowledged by the Trump administration, was rolled out as the Department of Homeland Security targeted Somali communities in Minnesota with a major enforcement operation earlier this year.
