Trump Asks Supreme Court to Open Haitians to Deportation

President Donald Trump asked the US Supreme Court to let his administration scrap a legal shield that protects 350,000 Haitians from deportation.

The request aims to end the Haitians’ so-called Temporary Protected Status, calling on the justices to lift a lower court order that is blocking the cancellation for the time being.

The Trump administration has moved aggressively to terminate TPS since taking power last year, doing so for a dozen countries. Outgoing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem Noem already has a similar request pending at the Supreme Court in a bid to end protected status for 6,000 Syrians.
