ICE Sued for Trump’s Courthouse ‘Traps’ Set to Detain Migrants

The Trump administration’s policy of allowing Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to arrest noncitizens at their immigration court proceedings was challenged by a pair of immigrant advocacy groups Friday.

African Communities Together and The Door, both New York-based nonprofits, claim the administration has transformed mandatory court hearings into “traps” by reversing longstanding protections against courthouse arrests, according to their complaint in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. The groups claim that the Trump administration’s “sweeping, unprecedented campaign” violates the Administrative Procedures Act and constitutional due process by denying immigrants an opportunity to seek asylum.
