DHS Buys Massive Warehouse in Salt Lake City to Detain Migrants

A massive warehouse on Salt Lake City’s west side has been purchased by the Department of Homeland Security, adding to a growing portfolio of industrial buildings the federal government is acquiring to expand immigration detention capacity.

The 24.9-acre (10-hectare) property at 6020 W. 300 South sold for $145.4 million, according to a deed filed Wednesday with the Salt Lake County Recorder’s office.

The 880,000-square-foot warehouse was sold by a real estate investment unit of Deutsche Bank’s DWS Group. The deed lists the seller as RREEF CPIF 6020 W 300 S, LLC.
