Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is ordering the state board governing public universities to stop the hiring of workers on H-1B specialty occupation visas.
“I am directing the Florida Board of Governors to pull the plug on the use of H-1B visas in our universities,” DeSantis (R) said Wednesday in remarks at the University of South Florida.
He accused universities of “importing foreign workers” to hire over qualified Americans. His remarks come amid a wider backlash among conservatives to the specialty occupation visa program, which is already facing drastic new restrictions from the Trump administration.
