BGOV Bill Analysis: H.R. 875, Remove Noncitizens for DUIs

Noncitizens who are convicted of driving while intoxicated or impaired would be automatically ineligible for admission into the US and made deportable under H.R. 875.

The measure would cover individuals convicted of a felony or misdemeanor under local laws governing driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, making conviction automatic grounds for inadmissibility or removal under US immigration law.

Noncitizens who admit to driving while intoxicated or impaired would also be legally inadmissible into the country.

In 2023, 12,429 people were killed in DUI-related traffic accidents, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
