Abrego Garcia Freed From ICE Facility Following Judge’s Order

Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran migrant who became a symbol of President Donald Trump’s hard-line immigration policies, was released from a US detention facility Thursday after a federal judge said the government lacked any legal grounds to keep him in custody.

US District Judge Paula Xinis had directed US officials to “immediately” set him free, also ruling that his detention appeared to be “constitutionally infirm.” Abrego Garcia has been fighting efforts to deport him while also defending against human smuggling charges in Tennessee.
