Reynolds Applies for FDA Clearance of Vuse as Vaping Fears Grow

Reynolds American Inc. is asking U.S. regulators to authorize sales of its Vuse electronic cigarette, even as nicotine alternatives face an increasing backlash over underage use.

The company, a unit of British American Tobacco Plc, said in a statement Oct. 11 that it had filed a premarket tobacco product application with the Food and Drug Administration. Vuse can already be purchased in the U.S., but the FDA has given companies until May to seek marketing authorization if they wish to keep selling their vaping products.
