The Biden administration issued revised guidance Tuesday on how state nursing home inspection agencies should determine facility compliance with a major provision of the mandatory staffing rule that takes effect in August.
Beginning Aug. 8, nursing homes must complete a revamped “facility assessment” to determine the staff, training, and competencies needed to properly care for residents. The assessments consider residents’ “diseases, conditions, physical and behavioral health issues, cognitive disabilities” and other characteristics, then make staffing decisions based on those needs, the rule said.
