The notifications of enforcement discretion issued under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act will expire on May 11, the HHS said Monday.
The Office for Civil Rights for the Department of Health and Human Services published four notifications in 2020 and 2021 in the Federal Register on how the privacy, security, breach notification, and enforcement rules would be applied to certain violations during the Covid-19 public health emergency, which is expiring, the HHS said.
