Gilead Withheld Safer HIV Drugs from Market, Lawsuit Claims

A series of lawsuits filed in California state courts accuse Gilead Sciences Inc. of withholding a new HIV medication from patients for more than a decade so it could profit from a less-safe version that was already on the market.

Altogether, 17 lawsuits have been filed in nine counties in California. Attorneys representing 561 plaintiffs from around the country are petitioning the California Judicial Council in San Francisco to coordinate all state court cases now that Gilead has lost its motions to dismiss the cases.
