Animal health company Zoetis Inc. is working on a vaccine for certain bird flu strains as global health officials discuss a potential mass inoculation of poultry against the dangerous, fast-spreading virus.
The US Department of Agriculture and other regulators are in talks with Zoetis and its competitors about developing vaccines, Chief Executive Officer Kristin Peck said in an interview. While it would take about a year for Zoetis to develop a shot that would match the latest strain, companies already have vaccines against earlier versions that would be “quite protective,” the CEO said.
