Municipalities across Wisconsin quickly ordered businesses to stay closed and enacted local bans against large gatherings after a statewide order intended to combat the spread of the coronavirus was invalidated by the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Dane County, which includes Madison, issued a public health order enacting the chief tenets of the statewide order struck down by the court. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (D) reminded residents a March 25 public health order containing restrictions on public gatherings is still in effect.
