West Virginia’s Medicaid program failed to collect millions in required rebates for physician-administered prescription drugs, federal watchdogs say.
On Thursday, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General released its audit of state invoicing for over $76 million of drug claims the state paid between Jan. 9, 2019, and Dec. 31, 2022. The report found that during the period analyzed, West Virginia failed to collect over $2.9 million in rebates for the drugs, for which the state Medicaid agency improperly filed claim for reimbursement from the federal agency.
