The Washington Department of Health reported its first potential human bird flu case of 2025, after a preliminary test detected the virus in a local resident just the influenza season in the US starts to ramp up.
If the infection is confirmed, it would be the first positive avian influenza case for the state this year, the health department said in a statement. Officials are working to confirm the source of the infection.
The patient is an older adult with underlying health issues who developed a fever and was eventually hospitalized in early November.
