Virginia Fails to Secure Drug Price Board as Governor Vetoes It

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger is vetoing legislation that would have created a state panel to grapple with high prescription drug costs.

The refusal by Spanberger (D) to sign the legislation draws to an end a lengthy back and forth over the General Assembly’s effort to create a prescription drug affordability board. Spanberger said in a statement Tuesday that she’d vetoed the legislation as “evidence from other states” shows that PDABs aren’t effective vehicles for lowering costs.

“They are expensive undertakings that other states have either repealed or are considering repealing due to costs and ineffectiveness,” Spanberger said.
