The Trump administration signaled it won’t grant funding for states that want to partially expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act after denying Utah’s proposal.
“It has been confirmed that, as predicted by our caucus and so many others, Utah’s waiver application has been denied by the Trump administration,” the state’s Senate Democrats said in a July 28 statement.
Partial expansion has been the main apparatus for conservative states looking to receive a bigger federal check for Medicaid without fully embracing President Barack Obama’s signature health law. The ACA expanded the population eligible for low-income-assisted health care.
