USAA Locks in Escape From Suit Targeting Mobile-Checking Patents

The Federal Circuit upheld a Texas judge’s decision throwing out a San Diego software firm’s lawsuit challenging USAA mobile check-deposit patents.

Mitek Systems Inc. failed to convince the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit that it had standing to sue for a declaratory judgment against United Services Automobile Association,which sued Wells Fargo NA, PNC Bank NA, and Truist Bank beginning in 2018 over several patents. The appeals court on Thursday backed the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas’ dismissal.
