US Seeks to End Hawaii Doctors’ Challenge to Abortion Pill Regs

A group of Hawaii doctors lacks standing to challenge heightened federal regulations imposed on the abortion drug mifepristone, the head of the Health and Human Services Department told a federal district court.

HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra on Tuesday asked the US District Court for the District of Hawaii to keep the agency’s risk evaluation and mitigation strategies for the drug in place, seeking summary judgment against the physicians.

The doctors said that the heightened requirements in the REMS burdened their patients and other health-care providers, but didn’t establish how the regulations injured them, Becerra said.
