US Prevails in Suit Over Amputee’s Alleged Medical Misdiagnosis

An amputee won’t get another chance to show that a US doctor’s alleged malpractice led to the loss of her lower leg, a federal appeals court said Friday.

The evidence supported a judgment that physician Jared Madden’s failure to consider a vascular cause for Debra Chesnut’s severe leg pain didn’t cause her injury, the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit said.

The vascular condition didn’t present until the following day, so Madden’s failure to consider it wasn’t a proximate cause of her lower-leg amputation, the court said in an unpublished opinion.
