US Fertilizer Maker CF to Lead New $4 Billion Ammonia Plant (1)

Fertilizer maker CF Industries Holdings Inc. is teaming with two Japanese companies to build the world’s biggest low-carbon ammonia plant, as it seeks to benefit from a surge in demand for more climate-friendly farm crop nutrients.

The $4 billion joint venture — which includes Jera Co., Japan’s largest power utility, and trading house Mitsui & Co. — will start construction of the complex in Louisiana next year, with commercial production expected to begin in 2029. The facility at CF’s Blue Point complex will have an annual capacity of approximately 1.4 million metric tons.
