UnitedHealth Hits Guardian With Suit Over Nursing Home Article

The Guardian defamed a health-care insurance company in an article accusing the latter of engaging in “fraudulent and harmful” cost-cutting tactics involving nursing home patients, a newly filed complaint said.

UnitedHealth Group Inc. sued Guardian News & Media LLC and related companies Wednesday in the Delaware Superior Court, saying the media organization knew the report in its flagship publication was false, but published it anyway. The company was “brazenly trying to capitalize on the tragic and shocking assassination of UnitedHealthcare’s then-CEO, Brian Thompson, in December 2024,” by tying the allegations to his shooting, the insurer said.
