UNC, Duke Health Systems End Dispute Over Hospital Expansion

Health systems operated by two of North Carolina’s major universities settled their dispute over a planned expansion into an under-served area, they told the state’s top court.

The University of North Carolina Health System and the state’s health department urged the North Carolina Supreme Court on Thursday to dismiss the action over whether the agency should allow UNCHS or Duke University Health System to build the new facilities.

“The parties have now resolved this case by fully executed settlement agreement, thus obviating the need for continued appellate litigation,” UNCHS and the agency said. They didn’t share the settlement’s details.
