The U.S. government is appealing a judgment that could cost it more than $71.5 million for losses insurers say they incurred by reducing low-income plan members’ co-payments under Obamacare.
In all, insurers want well over $2 billion they say Obamacare promised them in its cost-sharing reduction program. Insurers agreed to charge lower co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles in exchange for promised reimbursement in order make health insurance more attractive to people who previously couldn’t afford it.
