Trump’s Surgeon General Pick Nears Confirmation

Several Trump administration picks for top health posts, including surgeon general, are nearing confirmation following action by a Senate panel.

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee approved five nominations, including that of Jerome Adams, Indiana’s health commissioner, to replace Vivek Murthy as surgeon general. Murthy, an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump who sought to make gun control a public health issue, was dismissed earlier this year, a rarity for a surgeon general.
