Trump’s HHS Taps AI to Up Pressure on States Over Medicaid Fraud

The Trump administration will begin using artificial intelligence to analyze states’ efforts to prevent fraud in Medicaid, the latest measure to scrutinize federal health program spending in states.

The Department of Health and Human Services on Thursday announced it sent a letter to 50 state governors informing them that the agency will use “next-generation AI analytical tools” to survey states for persistent noncompliance with fraud audits. Under the Audit Enforcement and Risk Oversight initiative, unresolved fraud findings and delinquent audit submissions may result in punitive actions by the agency, including withholding payments.
