Trump’s HHS Set on ‘Transforming’ Health System, Azar Says

The Department of Health and Human Services has its sights set on “transforming” the health system in the coming year, Secretary Alex Azar said Feb. 22.

The department in 2018 took “historic” action on prescription medication and made progress in combating the opioid epidemic, Azar said his State of the Department address.

In 2019, the HHS plans to expand on its value-based care initiative and roll out new payment models that will “pay for outcomes,” he said. That generally means paying for care instead of the process of getting it. The agency also will continue its efforts on responding to ...
