Trump Kidney Order Sets ‘Audacious’ Goals That Advocates Love

President Donald Trump’s executive order on kidney disease care set a trio of ambitious goals that advocates say will be hard to meet but are also long overdue.

As part of a July 10 announcement, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar laid out three major goals:

  • reducing the number of kidney disease patients whose condition progresses to end-stage renal disease by 25% by 2030;
  • having 80% of end-stage renal disease patients receiving at-home dialysis or kidney transplants by 2025;
  • and doubling the number of available kidneys available for transplant by 2030.
