Trump, House Republicans Meet as Medicaid Standoff Splits GOP

President Donald Trump and House Republicans met to wrangle over one of the thorniest issues dividing the party: whether to cut Medicaid benefits for millions of low-income Americans.

House Speaker Mike Johnson and Representative Brett Guthrie, who chairs the committee that oversees Medicaid, met with the president at the White House Thursday morning to discuss potential cuts to the health coverage program.

Trump said at a White House event afterward that Republicans “will be saving Medicaid and strengthening it” but didn’t any other details of the discussions, which also covered what tax cuts would be included in the package. ...
