Trump Acts to Count Medicaid, Other Benefits Against Immigrants (1)

Use of Medicaid coverage or other public benefits by immigrants or their children could hurt their chances of staying in the U.S. through a green card or other means, under a new Trump administration proposal.

The Department of Homeland Security said Sept. 22 in a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that the agency wants to mandate all immigrants “seeking an extension of stay or change of status to demonstrate that they have not received, are not currently receiving, nor are likely to receive, public benefits as defined” under the changes.
